Ruedi Schorno exhibition "How to be a Latvian?“ intends to present two things: A reflection of the recent project, together with new works, and a retrospective of Schorno's older works, showing the long-term relationship between Schorno and Latvia.
The new works are based on the experience and reflection of last years experimental art project „How to become a Latvian?“. While thousands of Latvians are forced to leave their country and look for a welfare abroad, arrives a Swiss artist and by copying and performing Latvian behaviours tries to become a part of the society and playfully reflect on Latvian identity questions and its stereotypes.
"How to be a Latvian?" is a follow-up artistic approach of understanding a foreign society, where the artist feels both lost and at home at the same time. More than six years Ruedi Schorno constantly creates art works, illustration projects and visual essays about Latvia, his exchanges with locals and his personal awareness within the Latvian society. His artistic approach has anthropological qualities and is based on a daily communication frame by rambling through the street labyrinth of Riga, redesigning daily live products and symbols, originating "contemporary folk songs" hand in hand with local audience or transplanting exhibition space into the internet.
Within the exhibition "How to be a Latvian?" Ruedi Schorno offers a broad compilation of his yearlong created, sentient and likewise sharp-tongued artworks.
